This is a log of the development of The Last Horizon November 2007 Update A huge thanks to you all for the sales and positive feedback, it has been amazing and very humbling, Antony and myself made the cd as promised for people like ourselves who love music and your emails of genuine warm satisfaction has given us great relief to know that it has been well recieved. Distributors are continually coming on board and likewise they have been very complimentary of the music, we are under no illusions and know some folk will have a different point of view and we will be ready for that when it happens. Part two of the project will be out this time next year and in between there will be plenty happening, firstly a project Antony has called Sunchild which I will be helping him with, recording starts in the middle of November ready for release late February 2008. There has been questions from all corners of the planet asking about the name HOGGWASH and its origin and how it came about, Some three years ago I showed my early demos recording to David Jandrell, Wales's very own Andy Latimer and also award winning Author, he kindly agreed to play guitar on the project at that time it was untitled. One of his main characters in the infamous Cwmcarn News series was Sergeant Hogg in honour of Hogg and the decision even at that very early stage that I did not want to do an arty arsey Prog cd but something very simple and basic but true to the genre, Hoggwash was born, David due to the success of his books was unable to record at that moment in time but we will do something together in the future, Finally thanks again to Terry Cooper who's artwork is gaining as much recognition as the music itself. Just like David he's also multitalented and an author I am really hoping that Caerllysi will have its own publishing arm in 2008 with books from both of these guys on board. To coincide with the release of the cd Antony and his lovely partner Valya were here with Jane, Richard and myself at GH for over a week and we all had an amazing time, those who pre ordered the cd will see from the bonus disc some of the things that went on. An interview with the legendry PBS of Steam Event Management, Sony's leading Promotion company being one of the highlights, we will edit the interview in time for the festive season from its 40+ minutes to something more enjoyable and sensible and hopefully it will let you all see the musical bond between Antony and myself and our commitment for the future. October 2007 Update At last the cd and booklet are finally with the Sony pressing plant here in the UK we wanted to compliment our music with a quality 16 page booklet so that that you all could enjoy the lyrics content as well as the music itself. The cd cover is actually a painting from several ideas I had coordinated by the very talented Terry Cooper who undertook all the artwork (except the cd disc which Richard created along with the original Hoggwash logo ) without a murmur and the patience of a saint I have been lucky enough to see lots of Terry's work and also during the last six months got to know him really well. Trying to be unbiased I can confidently tell you that he is a multi talented guy please check out his web site www.terrycooper.co.uk and remember the name as he is also a solid gold script and book writer and his name will be appearing on a TV set in your home on a regular basis in the near future. Antony at last has his travel visa so he will be visiting the UK on Tuesday the 9th October and will be here for some 7/8 days including the release date of the cd if you want to ask him any questions relating to Hoggwash or Karfagen please email us Now the Caerllysi Music label is up and running we will be looking to produce other projects and eventually bring on board some other artists. August 2007 Update Busy now sorting out all the legal side of the release of the cd so that when the booklet is finished we can start without delay the first pressing of The Last Horizon, which I am still hoping will be around the end of this month, so as a big thanks for all of your kind emails of continued support here is the opening 5 minutes or so from a track you have not heard at all so far The Road Of Many Challenges hope you enjoy it. Once we have the artwork for the cd cover we will arrange for a large section of the cd to be on our Hoggwash site. So stay tuned, as that is very near. Happy days Will
July 2007 Update HOGGWASH PROJECT CD COMPLETED JUDGEMENT DAY LOOMS ! At long last the journey is near its completion and our Hoggwash Project cd is now studio mastered. We are working hard on the booklet which will be 16 pages to complement the quality of the music allowing the lyrics to be shown clearly so we can all read them along with some very colourful back drops to the individual tracks. Thanksto Antony we have a cd I am really proud of and a piece of work that I feel will change his profile within the progressive rock field and show just why I felt some 18 months ago that he was a very special talent. I will work hard now within the industry promoting the cd to fellow distributors with a view to an official release in late August on our own label. Ready for Antony and Caerllysi Music to target something like the Summers End festival as a chance for you all to meet the great man in person and look at live dates if all goes well in 2008. Weare already working on the follow up with the storyline very much in place and the heart of the tracks laid in skeleton format. Studio recording is due to begin in October and if all goes well this time next year the follow up will be ready. April 2007 Update As promised another mp3 to listen to off the forthcoming Hoggwash cd. Asection of the track Rainbow Instrumental that takes its origin from the great Dutch bands like Focus and Trace of the early 1970s its light breezy atmosphere Is typical of the tracks that bridge together the longer more complex songs that tell the albums story, it also shows off the talented musicians Antony has assembled around him. The track itself is several minutes longer than the Mp3 and the final version has live flute on it. LiveFlute and Oboe have now been introduced and used by Antony very tastefully across the tracks and a big thanks to the talented musicians who have added an extra dimension to the music. Thecd will be ready to master in a few weeks time and work is commencing now on the booklet, which will be comprehensive maybe 16 pages. LastlyAntony and myself have decided that in view of the title of the new Reasoning CD (the best cd issued in 2007 so far) it would now be silly to continue with our similar title so the working title now is The Last Horizon, lets hope nobody has a cd of that title coming out in the next few months!!!! February 2007 Update Ahappy 2007 to you all and as promised several minutes from the opening track Out of the darkness part 1, it is a powerful musical piece that weaves its way through the progressive genre, there's something in this track for everyone, at least I hope there is, below are all the words to Part 1. Allrecordings on our site are only pre studio recording but are a good guide to the overall sound and the songs themselves, Antony is now in the studio with Sergei and his friends recording the actual CD. Tomy mind Antony has shown with these songs that he is a progressive rock giant in the making and Hoggwash will hopefully bring him the musical reward his talent deserves. 1st Dec 2006 Update Anothermonth has gone since the last update so as promised here is both a progress report and some more music for you to listen to. "The Awakening" Project is now complete in respect of the storyline and the musical pieces we want to use. Antony now has the mammoth task of recording the cd in his studio, fine tuning some of the musical sections and dovetailing everything so it gels ensuring the high standard we both demand is met. Thelast month has been so exciting and a privilege to be working with Antony, He is a very special musician and person trust me when I say he will be a major force in our music for decades to come, he is only 26 years old !!! In over three decades of playing and listening to progressive rock he is what our music is all about. . Themain track out" Of the Darkness" is in two parts and some 13 minutes+ in total. and sets the tone for the story and the musical feel of the cd. Hopefully in a few weeks we will put the opening 3 or 4 minutes of it on this site so keep checking us out. Foryour ears now is the first 3minutes+ of "Under A Rainbow Sky" a moving rocking track that works well in contrast with some of the more complex ones as before I have enclosed the words of the whole track as they are at the moment. Thereis a concept here but without the words from both the opening "Out Of The Darkness" and the final track "The Last Horizon" they will just read like any other words. Anyway I would like to think the songs will stand up on there own without being part of the cds concept Please feel free to email me with your views on any of the tracks you have heard, all input is welcome. 1st Nov 2006 Update Firstlymany thanks for the complimentary response to our mp3 clip from Out of the Darkness into the Light we put on our web several weeks ago its the intended main and a lengthy track that will hold the story and the cd together. Words have now been added to the music and a working title for that section of the track is now Watching The Sun Go Down. Asa taster of Anthony’s vocal style a short download of The Last Card is here. It’s his first attempt at taking this role himself and as you would expect he does this with some style. It was recorded a few weeks ago and Antony was only familiar with the early part of the lyrics at the time. October 2006 “THE AWAKENING” Thanks for your emails regarding my Hoggwash project and some really kind words of concern when the item was removed recently from our web page, we felt that the lack of definite information for so long required its removal. I am now pleased to confirm the project is in progress with the initial issue of an EP in early 2007. I had been sitting on my cd of keyboard themes now for over a year. The success of Caerllysi Music and problems trying to get important work carried out on our new home had resulted in it gathering dust. Several musicians here in Wales and beyond had offered their services, which was so kind of everyone, but it would still have required putting all these things together. Followersof Caerllysi will know my excitement at finding and becoming friends with the outstanding young Ukraine musician Antony Kalugin who you will all be familiar with from his band Karfagen, Antony was kind enough to listen to my music and agree to undertake the massive job of recreating my music in a recording studio. He has a free license with the music and will be adding his own input musically which in the end will far out weigh my own initial input, his dear friend Sergei Kovalev will also be on board, the project will now be a collaboration still retaining the Hoggwash working title. I feel like I have just won the lottery, as they are without doubt musicians of the highest quality who sprinkles gold dust on everything they touch. Wehave decided that extra lyrics would be required to the few that I had written, again I have been so lucky that Steve Reed of Magenta who has also been a real friend to me during the last few years has offered to write the extra lyrics and work on my own existing ones. Steve as described by Leo of Progplanet fame is “the leading writer of progressive Rock Lyrics today” words I echo. So it’s onwards and upwards now. A short demo of the opening to what will hopefully be titled “Out of the Darkness into the Light” is available in mp3 format. Its only a demo but will hopefully give an insight into the sound Antony is trying to create. Happy days ! Will
